Accessibility and Accommodations Policy

Accessibility and Academic Accommodations

New Western University (NWU) provides reasonable accommodations to students with documented disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and California state law.

We support equal access by ensuring that students who meet academic requirements receive timely, appropriate accommodations that remove barriers to participation in courses, assessments, and digital learning environments.

How to Request Accommodations

Students must email the Academic Affairs Manager at studentservices@nwuus.org to start the request process. To ensure timely review, students should submit:

  • A written explanation of the accommodation(s) requested

  • Documentation from a licensed professional describing how the disability affects academic participation

We recommend submitting requests before the academic term begins.

What to Expect

NWU reviews all accommodation requests within 5–10 business days. We communicate approved accommodations confidentially to faculty and begin implementation immediately. Examples include:

  • Extended time for exams

  • Alternative testing formats

  • Screen reader–compatible materials

Technology Accessibility

NWU maintains accessible online platforms, including closed-captioned video content and screen reader–friendly tools. For technology-based accommodations, students must coordinate with the Academic Affairs Manager in advance.

Appeals

If NWU denies or modifies a request, students may submit an appeal to the Academic Dean. Appeals must include the original request, the decision received, and any additional supporting documents.
