Non-Discrimination Policy

New Western University (NWU) is committed to providing a learning and working environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. We uphold the principles of equity, inclusion, and respect, and we adopt the protections outlined in Title IX and other non-discrimination laws.

This policy applies to all members of the NWU community, including students, faculty, staff, contractors, applicants, volunteers, and visitors. It covers all university activities, programs, and services—both online and in any NWU-sponsored setting.

Protected Characteristics

 

NWU prohibits discrimination, harassment, and retaliation based on any legally protected characteristic, including but not limited to:

  • Age

  • Ancestry or national origin

  • Color, race, or ethnicity

  • Disability (mental or physical)

  • Gender, gender identity, or gender expression

  • Genetic information

  • Marital or parental status

  • Medical condition or pregnancy

  • Religion or creed

  • Sex or sexual orientation

  • Veteran or military status

Definitions

​​

  • Discrimination – Unfair treatment based on a protected characteristic.

  • Harassment – Unwelcome behavior that interferes with participation in university programs or employment.

  • Sexual Harassment – Includes quid pro quo situations, hostile environments, sexual assault, stalking, dating or domestic violence.

  • Retaliation – Adverse actions taken against someone for reporting a concern or participating in an investigation.

How to Report a Concern

 

Anyone who experiences or witnesses discrimination, harassment, or retaliation should report it immediately.

Include:

  • A description of the concern

  • Names of those involved (if known)

  • Relevant dates, locations, and any supporting materials

Investigation Process

​​

  • Student matters – Investigated by the COO.

  • Faculty or staff matters – Referred to the Vice President for investigation.

  • Complaints involving senior leadership – The President appoints a qualified alternate investigator.

All investigations are conducted promptly, fairly, and confidentially. Findings and any corrective actions are communicated in writing.

Appeals

 

Any party may request a review of the outcome within 5 business days of receiving the decision. The President reviews all appeals, and the decision is final.

​

Retaliation is Prohibited

 

NWU will not tolerate retaliation in any form. Confirmed retaliation will result in corrective or disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal or termination.
